Yog Ganga Centre in Dehradun

The Yog Ganga Centre is located in a quiet, forested suburb of Dehradun, Uttarkhand. It is sited in the foothills of the lower Himalayas and is popular for its many academic and research centres. The centre was founded in June 1988 by Swati and Rajiv Chanchani. The aim of this centre is to promote the study of Yoga in the tradition of the revered sage Patanjali. Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, experienced yoga master of the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune, has taught the teachers of this institute. The centre was initially based in Mussoorie and now it is transplanted to a quiet, forested suburb of Dehradun in 2002.

The Yog Ganga Centre building is constructed of brick and locally mined limestone. the centre includes a 1500 sq.ft. well equipped yoga hall, a library, a place for lectures and demonstrations, a reception and changing rooms. It is an ideal place for yoga and mutation as it is surrounded by well landscape gardens that feature beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers. Training at yog ganga centre includes ongoing general clesses, childrn’s classes, remedial classes and intensive courses. They teach Asanas, Pranayama and aspects of Indian philosophy and ayurveda. Special cultural programmes are also held at the centre on important occasions. The directors of the Yog Ganga Centre also provide yoga training at other venues in India and overseas.

Teachers at yog Ganga centre are Swati Chanchani, studying and practising Yoga under the tutelage of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar since 1975, and Rajiv Chanchani since 1977. they have n authored a book titled “yoga for children” that has been translated into several foreign language. They have good knowledge about yoga and have been teaching yoga since 1980. They also taught yoga to students at the Doon School and Welham girl’s School for many years. Yoga syllabus for the ICSE exam board is also prepared by them.

Courses at Yog Ganga centre:

It conducts several intensive 3 week long courses each year in which asanas, pranayam and basic yoga philosophy are taught. This course is normally meant for outstation students which usually include minimum 20 and maximum 40 students. It includes two hour lessons pranayam and three talks on yoga philosophy. You can use library and the yoga hall for study and practice. Beside this centre also general classes that are held twice a week.

The centre doesn’t have accodation or dining facilties but they can arrange accommodation fro you as paying guests in the vicinity, in nice, well maintained houses at Rs. 400 per day for accommodation. There you can employ someone to cook and wash or you can relish food at some restaurant. There are many restaurants in nearby yog Ganga centre.
