Leukaemia is a cancer that affects the white blood cells that are produced by the bone marrow. The white blood cells become abnormal and divide and grow in an uncontrolled manner in this cancer. The middle age at diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia is 65 years. Approximately 9,000 people are affected by Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in the United States each year.
- Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL): It is a cancer of the lymphocytes. it is the most common type of leukaemia cancer. This type of cancer develops very slowly and many people with type of cancer do not require treatment for month or years but some people require treatment immediately. It mostly affects people over 60 years.
- Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL): It is a rare type of leukaemia cancer that affects around 200 adults per year in the UK. It is a cancer of white blood cells. It is caused due to overproduction of immature lymphocytes, called lymphoblasts. It affects mostly children under 15 years of age than adults. This type of leukaemia cancer is more common in males than in females.
